A Message from our President Andy Bell
As we emerge from the gloom of another winter, it’s good to be writing this report on a
bright sunny day. As usual I hope you find our spring newsletter (sent by e mail to all members) interesting and informative, thanksagain to Richard for an excellent production.
We continue to attract new members who are nearly all keen walkers and it’s good to see so
many of you trying your hand at leading walks for the next 6 months. Judging by attendance
levels, there is a definite preference for walks nearer to home and, as you can see, this walks
list has a number of local walks including a few public transport linear walks. For those who
like to wander further a new initiative, adventure walks, will give us a chance to go further
afield than usual and tackle areas not accessible on our usual Sunday jaunts, thank you Ian for
getting this going.
It’s coming up to AGM time again, this is on Thursday 10th April at Morley Cricket Club and
I hope as many of you as possible can attend. Lizzie Lowe has decided to step down as Vice-
president; thank you Lizzie for all your hard work in this and the many other roles you have
undertaken over the years. Lizzie will be staying on as a committee member, but we now
have a vacancy to be filled, I am hopeful someone will be sufficiently interested to join us.
We have sadly lost too many club members this year and going forward we want to include
mention of them in the newsletter. Richard has more on this subject but please try to ensure
he is kept informed, we really do not want to miss paying tribute to members past and
present who are no longer with us.
Finally, a big thank you to Glynis for organising December’s Ceilidh. Although not as well
attended as hoped, those who went have said the event was greatly enjoyed.
Charity Links
The committee is aware several of our members have links with and promote various charities.
If you wish to make yourself known as a point of contact for a particular charity or have a
charitable event coming up, email the club, a committee member or myself
Richard.clapham@icloud.com with a paragraph on your subject and we will include it in the
next newsletter. If enough interest is shown I’m happy to generate and circulate a separate
bulletin
We need your help
We always need volunteers to manage or help organise some events if we are to continue with them. So if you can help please contact our secretary who has kindly offered to collate this info for the committee. It’s your chance to put your own slant on an event or bring something new!!
