Walking Considerations

Make sure you have suitable clothing and footwear, and carry plenty of refreshments.  The club’s insurance policy only covers public liability.  Arrange your own cover if you want personal accident insurance. If you are leading a walk make sure that it is not longer or more difficult than you have stated on the published programme.  Have a shorter version in mind in case the weather deteriorates.   Take all litter home and leave the picnic area tidy.  Do not throw stones down hills or into open shafts – you never know who might be below!  Keep dogs on leads and don’t let them hold up the group when negotiating stiles.  Check with the walk leader for suitability. If you find any problems on your route e.g. blocked paths, broken stiles. Please note the location/grid reference and take a photo if possible, then you can report it to www.ramblers.org.uk/ Please notify any member of the committee when you have done so.

Petrol Contributions (when car sharing)

Up to 30 miles £3 31-60 miles £4 61-100 miles £5 Over 100 miles by special arrangement Parking Charges Please note, passengers are kindly asked to share any parking charges with the driver. Note to Drivers We offer a car share scheme from Morrisons Car Park.  This is to assist our non drivers and a few of our members who find driving too stressful.  This only works fairly if you do your fair share of the driving.  Several of us only live a short distance from the car park but we still get our cars out so we can do our share.  So please don't wait to be asked; your passengers will always contribute their share of the fuel costs and bring carrier bags for their dirty footwear and clothing.

Club Archive, Photograph Album and Log Books

The club’s photograph album and log books have been passed on to The Morley Archive, which now has a home in Morley Market. Tom has kindly offered to be contact for any enquiries If you are leading a walk, please try and do a brief log of the walk, mentioning particularly any amusing/interesting incidents and also, if possible, a photograph. Don't forget there is a club trophy for the best log of the year.

Lyme Disease (Walkers please be aware)

Lyme disease is an infection that derives from a tick bite. A tick is a small, blood-sucking mite. Normally it lives on blood from larger animals, like deer, but it may also attach itself to humans. The tick sits on tall grass and trees, waiting for a possible 'host' to walk by. If a tick attaches itself to someone, it will typically find its way to a warm, moist and dark place on the body.  Tweezers are the best way to remove it.  Further information can be found on the internet www.baba-uk.org

Volunteer Leaders for Walks

We are always keen to have volunteers to lead walks.  Please contact Melanie Stockdale via email here.  She will fit your walk into the programme and can let you have maps and other details if necessary. All reports of club walks and events should go to Lizzie via email here. If you have never led a walk and would like to try, an information sheet is available from the Secretary.  Also don’t be afraid to approach one of the experienced leaders for advice.  It may be possible for you to ‘buddy up’ with them when they are planning a walk of their own, picking up some useful advice and confidence.
